How to Upload Cricut Cartridge Handbooks to Your Kindle

Did you know that you can put Cricut cartridge handbooks on your Kindle?  It's actually very easy, and even though the handbooks will be in black and white when loaded on the Kindle, the images are clear.  Here is a picture that I took of a loaded handbook page:

So, how do you get the handbooks from your computer into your ebook reader?

There are actually two different methods.  You can connect your Kindle to your computer's USB port, and then transfer them over by dragging and dropping using your computer's file browser, or you can send them wirelessly via Amazon's Whispernet service (fees may apply using this second option).

For both methods, you will first need to download the handbooks you want to your computer.  PDF copies of the handbooks are on the Cricut website, and can be found here:

Click to view the handbook, and once it is fully loaded in your browser, you will need to save to your computer.  Do this for each handbook you want on your device.

After the handbooks are saved to your computer, it's time to get them on your Kindle reader.

To transfer them via USB and your computer's file browser, follow the detailed instructions found on Amazon's website:

You can also transfer them wirelessly via Amazon's Whispernet service.  However, Amazon charges a fee for files over 5 MB in size (currently $0.15 per megabyte within the U.S. and $0.99 outside the U.S.).  Most of the Cricut cartridge handbooks are over the 5 MB size limit, so the best option is to use the USB method for loading them on your Kindle.  However, if you do want to send them via Whispernet, here are the step by step instructions.

You will need to email the handbooks as attachments to your Amazon Kindle account.  If you do not know your Kindle email address, from your computer, login into your Amazon account.  Click on the "Manage Your Kindle" link in the digital content section.

On this page, you will see your Kindle e-mail address.  Jot down this address.  Now, using your regular e-mail provider, send the Cricut cartridge handbooks as attachments to your Kindle e-mail address.  After sending, wait for a few minutes, then check your Kindle.  In my experience, it takes a little longer for the handbooks to arrive than it does for books that I order.  Also, don't forget, there may be a charge to use this method.

Well, that's it!  If you have any questions about how to do this, let me know by leaving a comment below.  If I can't answer your questions, hopefully one of our other visitors can.

p.s.  I only have a Kindle, so unfortunately, I can't provide instructions for the Nook and other ebook readers.  However, I am working on a tutorial for adding the Cricut cartridge handbooks to your Apple devices using the free iBooks app.  Look for it in the near future...
