Four Cricut Solutions Cartridges to Retire

Last week, Provo Craft announced that four of their Cricut Solutions cartridges would be retiring.  Here is a copy of their announcement:

Retiring Cricut Solutions Cartridges

As you can see from the picture above, these are the ones that are being discontinued:

  • Blackletter
  • Sans Serif
  • Street Sign
  • Christmas Noel

Three of the four listed are font carts.  Of those three, I think Blackletter will be the most missed.  Cricut describes it as a "traditional Old English style font".  It truly is unique.  I can't think of any other cartridge that is currently available that could take its place.

On the other hand, the fonts on Sans Serif and Street Sign are basic, for lack of a better word.  I think there are several other cartridges currently available that can "stand in" as substitutes for these two.  Street Sign does have about twenty road sign graphics.  However, the Going Places cart has similar designs to these, as well as many others, and could be substituted in its place.

The only shape cartridge on the list, Christmas Noel, will undoubtedly be missed.  Even though there are several Christmas cartridges available, this still ranks as one of the favorites.  I have to admit that I don't have it - at least not yet.  I do plan to get it before it becomes difficult to find.  Although I already have a handful of Christmas themed carts, the graphics on this one - the reindeers, ornaments, angels, branches, and trees - are just too beautiful to pass on.

Which of the four Cricut Solutions cartridges are you surprised to see retiring?  Like me, will you be picking any of these up before they become difficult to find?  If you want to share, it's easy - just leave a comment below...

  1. Bonnie Francis says:

I just got the Christmas Noel on eBay for $16.87. So happy to now have it.

  2. Hi Bonnie,

It sounds like you got a great deal, especially considering that once the cartridge becomes hard to find, the price will shoot up!

  3. Speaking of Christmas Noel, I just got it – and I don’t see it on the list on my Cricut Expression after updating my firmware. Any ideas about how I can start using it? Am I doing something wrong?

  4. I will miss Sans Serif. Yes, it is basic, but it is a really NICE basic font. The proportions are great, and it has an almost retro look- very Twentieth Century. The only thing Cricut has that is close is Simply Sweet, and it is a lot more kid-y looking- not nearly as clean as Sans Serif. I’m on the hunt for Sans Serif now!

  5. Hi Kitty,

That is a good font! I really wish they would not retire any cartridges…
