Cricut Design Studio Software Update Now Available

If you own the Cricut Design Studio software, you will want to make sure that you keep it updated!  With that in mind, I wanted to let everyone know that a new update is now available...

This new update fixes a few bugs in the software, as well as makes the software compatible with both the Windows Vista 32- and 64-bit operating systems.  It also adds content for the following recently released cartridges:

  • Tinker Bell & Friends
  • Disney/Pixar Cars
  • Blackletter
  • Hello Kitty Greetings
  • Hello Kitty Font
  • Sesame Street Friends
  • Sesame Street Font

The new Design Studio Software update is available on the Cricut corporate website at http://www.cricut.com/cds/Update.aspx.

There are instructions on that page for downloading the update.  Make sure you read them before proceeding!  You will need to remove or uninstall your outdated version.

In addition to the instructions on the download page, Cricut had the following instructions in their weekly newsletter:

Before installing the new version, it is necessary to delete your current "CricutFontsMetadata.xml" file. This file is located in your "Cricut Folder" which is in your "Documents Folder". Just double click on your Cricut Folder and you will see Projects and User Data. At this point double click on the User Data, then right click on the "CricutFontsMetadata.xml" folder, and delete.

Also, even though the Cricut website states that removing the outdated software from your machine will not remove any of your saved projects, I highly recommend making a backup copy of your projects.  It's better to be safe than sorry, and it never hurts to have backups on hand!
